For those who have good knowledge about hardware/software Empty
PostSubject: For those who have good knowledge about hardware/software   For those who have good knowledge about hardware/software EmptyMon Jun 07, 2010 1:30 am

My comp spec:
MBO: Asus P5QL
CPU: E8400
VGA: HD 4850
PSU: corsair tx650w
RAM: 4gb kingmax ddr2 800mhz
HDD: WD 640 GB
Monitor: SAMSUNG 2032BW 20" widescreen
Mouse: Logitech MX518
Keyboard: MS industrial
OS:Windows 7 Ultimate

PROBLEM: I got my new computer 1 and a half years ago. And there is a quite a problem I have going on.

I get those strange screen blackouts in SOME games. Sound is going on but screen goes black like computer isn't turned on. After it happens I need to do hard reset so everything comes to our place.

Why I said SOME? The thing is a bit uhmm weird (like an alien hacked my computer).

This SOME contains games like Aika, Dungeons and Dragons Online and some more. But (yea there is always a but) it doesn't happen in Bad Company 2 or Crysis or Assasin's Creed 2 or other advanced game which runs ok in HIGH graphic details.

SOLUTIONS I TRIED:
Changed my graphic card.
Changed PSU. My old one was a bit bad so new one is listed above.
Changed mouse. (this is a joke, my old one got broken so bought new one Very Happy)
Watched temperatures of my components by program Everest and everything is fine.
Tried in 2 Operating system (windows 7 and windows xp)
Tried to underlock my graphic card.
Tried many different drivers version.
Tried to fry pancakes on it but actually that didn't help. *wonders why*
Throwing it out of window from 3rd floor. (not really, but I'm not far by trying this)

And much more.

I will pay a beer to anyone who solves my problem. Money will be sent out by post office.

So any idea why it happens?

Hehe ok, thanks for help I guess I could try to change memory, as I said temperatures are ok so coolers are working fine. I am also awaiting reply of your fellow friends.

I can think of a couple of things :

Hypothesis -1

Compatibility issues between your grafix card and MBO. (Usually this should not be the case, but in that one of million cases) . You said you replaced the graphics card - Was it with the same model or a different one ?

PoA - You could try updating the chipset drivers. Or worst case, a BIOS upgrade.

Hypothesis - 2

Some specific game settings that causes this. This is again a rare case, but stiil. If we have reached a stage where you are planning on throwing it out the window, we might as well suspect anything.

PoA - On all the games in which you have the problem confirmed, compare the settings to see if you can get a pattern. For example, this could happen when you have anti-aliasing enabled or you play a game in a certain resolution. Anything that can be a patter might help.

I'll add more if I can think of anything else.

1)Ill try update chipset drivers. As for BIOS one. I'm not confident about flashing my BIOS as my electricity isnt stable and if it turns down when flashing it will just cause more problems.

It was with same model.

2)Never actually tried this but Ill give it a try.

Results will come tomorrow as I am not in mood to do it now.

I appreaciate yours and Raiken's help.

Try to turn of the 'Shadow' setting in those games.

Personally I've never had problems with playing games after I turned off shadows. They are quite intensive to your graphics card.

Ok here goes an update-

As I tried many different solutions, I returned to try everything from start and tested my videocard temperatures again with another program. It seems overheating was problem as it would go up 80+C.

Solution I did is that I actually need to turn on V-sync (option that limits your max fps to 60) because my computer could have about 100 FPS on high details in DX10 on some games and that uch fps causes overheating (let's just hope FW will have Vsync Very Happy ).

I need to test these on few games, but I am 80% sure this is a problem.

Thanks all on replies, I guess I can play now my Trial on LOTRO. cheers
