Meanwhile, the people of the grasslands of Vermonia are attaining another sermon in their holy chapels, when they suddenly hear it knocking at the wooden gate walls. They see the 4 clerics and their escort emerging and quickly the townsfolk is gathering around. Curiosity spreads among the Villagers "What do they want here?", "Will our sick friends finally be healed?" but also doubts " Blasphemours! Get out of our holy lands! ".

A priest emerges to greet the clerics...

The Knight diplomat passes on the scroll to the scouts and states : "This is the message from our lord paladin who wishes to start diplomatic relations in hopes that the rumored nation of bards will use their powers of healing for the good of the people"

The Muse messenger brings the scroll to the head of land of Symphony who reads it very carefully. He than writes a reply to the Knight which says: "We the Land of Symphony refuse to accept your proposal of diplomatic relationship because we prefer to live quietly by ourselves and your problems are not ours so I ask you to leave this land and seek help somewhere else".

Sad !!!!!

The knight is surprised and red in the face, but like a true gentlemen, he holds his tongue, accepts the letter and leaves. As he leaves the land of the bards, he whispers, "There will be consequence for this."

Back home, the Citadel enjoys harvest moon, and has opened its doors to the indigenous people living on the land, enjoying festivities. But the lord of the Citadel is unable to feel lively as he is filled with premonitions of the tremulous times to come.

In the meantime at the land of Symphony the Leader summons the council because he fears that the order of the white tower might respond to their refusal to help in an hostile way so the council decide they should be prepared for battle.

The priest greets the clerics with surprisingly warm "Welcome!". After that his face suddenly changes into a grim look and he starts to examine the clerics. After he is finished he tells the clerics to wait for a moment. He goes into a tall building made out of very sturdy wood and reinforced with stonewalls, the barracks. He comes out with a hand full of savagely equipped guardsmen and tells the clerics they will be escorted into the quarantine zone by them.
"We wouldn't usually let you into our holy realm like this, but we have dire need of your skills. A mysterious sickness has befallen us a few days ago... It came with the last shipment of food supplies from the north. We do not know what heretic caused this, or why the gods punished us, but they must have forgiven us and sent us outsiders to aid us out in this hour of need."

The Guardsmen are beginning to escort the clerics and the knights, when suddenly an angry mob of about 10 people rushes into the frame, shouting something about dying for the greater cause. The guardsmen retreat, not wanting to hurt their own people. The clerics and the knights are about to get rushed by the zealous followers equipped with blunt maces and leather armor...


EDIT: sorry, LEATHER not LEADER armor.

The knights do not draw their weapons, and subdue the mob with shields and blunt scabbards. The clerics simply heal away any injuries that might have occurred, and continue into the Vermonian land. Ignoring stares of contempt and mistrust, the group approach the sectioned off part of the city. Few people threw stones, but the stones bounce off harmlessly off the heavy armor of the knights. The stench of rotting flesh fills the air and the soon after, the streets were no longer filled with people. The clerics have reached the Quarantine zone. Silently, resisting throwing up from the putrid smell, they go to work summoning Helio's healing powers upon the people. They go to work but the Extent of the damage is massive, and Stamina of the clerics limited. They decide to reside in the house of family who were among the first to perish from the affliction, and the knights take turns guarding the abode. Their first day as missionary has begun.

Few healthy people dared to set foot in the quarantine zone, just out of curiosity. Even fewer came back to tell of the miracles. The people are sad about the fact that it takes time to heal their fellow men, but all those who have lost faith, are regaining it praying to god that their beloved townsfolk will be saved.

Meanwhile a messenger to the citadel with a gift and a message of the gratitude of the people of Vermonia has been dispatched. Only few Vermonians leave their realm for other causes than crusading the unfaithful or gathering emergency supplies. The messenger stayed straight on his path the only thing in his head: His mission.
Suddenly he arrives at a long and vast river. "I must have been going into the wrong direction..." he thought to himself, when he realized a green line of some kind of liquid going through the water. He can't help his curiosity, but to follow it and finally arrives at the end of the long line... The docks! he sees a giant primitively built pipe that leads into the river, which spews out a bunch of that green stuff into the river every minute.

After some time the messenger realized it and fell to his knees, the docks people polluted the river and the ships bringing goods to his people must have drawn the toxin with it, thus poisoning Vermonians main Water source for the north side of the his beloved city.

When the messenger finally arrived at the Citadel he described what he just saw to the paladins who accepted the gift. He couldn't help but shout and cry in despise of the dock's people...

The people of Symphony heard there are some soldiers and clerics from the order of the white tower in Vermonia and decided to make the 1st move before they will. The general decided to have no mercy on them and sent out 2 Bard squads and one of the commanders, a Fierce Siren that goes by the name of Illiria.
"Your mission is to destroy the group that were sent to Vermonia and bring a cleric as a hostage, because they only have healing skills there should be no problem of them putting up a fight, no leave and don't even think of coming back if you have failed" says one of the generals.

Meanwhile, the knights and clerics of the white tower were spending thankless days healing the masses. Not only did the clerics need to follow strict regiments of prayers and meditation to replenish their holy powers each day, due to official unwelcome status of their being, the knights and cleric could not buy food. So one of the knights had to leave each day to hunt and gather food for everyone. To ensure the cleric's safety, 2 knights were assigned to each cleric. one was awake at all times and watching the cleric, while the other slept in 12 hour shifts. One knight's job was to protect the home and their provisions. At first, the people occasionally threw eggs and tomatoes at the clerics, but once they realized that clerics could simply heal the thrown food and consume them, the people stopped.

The people who were healed by the clerics were thankful, but could not say so. Being helped by the heretic clerics, these people were already in danger of being targets of religious fanacism. So the clerics did not ask for, and did not accept any gestures of gratitude.

After a rather vicious rock hit a knight's forehead, the knight asked the cleric as the cleric healed him: "Why are we helping these ungrateful people?"

The cleric answered: "We are clerics of the white tower. We do not ask people to follow our god, nor do we ask that we be recognized for our help. Just as our god provide light for all regardless of whether or not they worship him, we simply aid anyone who needs our help regardless of how they view us." and the knight could not say no more, nor did he need to. Strengthened by the wise cleric's words, the knight was content and glad he was serving a worthy cause.

As hectic and difficult the days, it was still rather laid back and calm day to day in their own way. But soon it was time for all this to come to an end.

The 2 squads Illiria was leading reached the territory of Vermonia but the problem was they couldn't just attack a whole city because they would probably lose so they just waited patiently. One morning one of the Bards claimed he saw a white carrying the crest of the Order of The White Tower hunting for food so they Siren commander decided its a good chance to attack and when they will notice their comrade is missing others will come to search for him. The Squads attacked the knight together and surprisingly he put up a fight but the outcome was obvious due to the difference in numbers, and thats how the battle started with the corpse of a white knight.

One day, the knight who gathers food for the entire group didn't return on time. Finding something wrong, all the knights and clerics barricaded themselves into their homes, thinking that it might have been one of the populace who killed him while he was isolated. However a day after waiting, there hasn't been another attack, so the Party opened the doors to their house, and treated those despirate enough to seek help within the walls of the house they resided in. At first the clerics and knights had to rely on food stocks they had, but realizing that something was wrong, people started sneaking in food to the clerics and the knights. Another two days passed, and finally the group heard the first news of the missing knight. On a piece of paper, someone scribbled that a body has been found outside the city, with the armor of a white tower knight. To investigate, it was decided that 4 knights go out and investigate what happend to the lone knight, and if possible, recover his corpse for a proper burial. On a moonless night, the 4 knights snuck out of the city and exited the city. They begun to search the path that the hunter knight often took to go hunting. Not before long, the body was found. It was obvious from far away that the body was not attacked by beasts, as no knight would be fallen from animals within their heavy armor. The Knight had suffered internal damage, and had bust ear drums. The body was starting to rot, yet because of the armor, no animal had yet picked away at the knight. Unable to bring the corpse into the city because of the fear of retribution the people might bring, the knights worked hard to bury the body and planted the sword by the head of the corpse as a grim grave marker, with the resolution to bring the clerics next day to do a proper burial ceremony for the fallen knight.

On nautical twilight, all the knights donned on full armor and ceremonial cloth over their armor, and the clerics prepared their burial dress wear to give the fallen knight a proper burial. The group reached the site, and gave the knight a proper sending. A single knight has been left behind in worst case scenario so that the order of white tower could be warned of any enemy attack. The knight left behind had no armor on and was hiding out pretending to be one of the citizen of the city. Everyone was in high tension and wary of their surroundings.

As expected the knights and clerics had prepared a ceremony to bury the body but they didn't take for consideration that was exactly what the enemy planned. Soon after the ceremony had started singing was heard, it was a tender voice and suddenly without warning the men started acting funny as if they were looking for something or someone.

Then without warning the Siren Illiria with her 2 squads of Bards, consisted of 10 men for each squad appeared, she quickly took her spear and killed 1 of the knights. Because she stopped singing the other knights woke up but it was too late because they were surrounded, the Bards used their Sonic Wave attack but not before one knight killed one of the Bards, but the outcome was inevitable.

Illiria took one cleric as a hostage as her General ordered her to but left the corpse of the Bard behind.

The Lone knight waited for a full day before checking on what might have happened to the others, and at night, he snuck out again. He found a scene of massacre where the body was buried. He worked to bury all his comrades, and attempted to give what service he could. Not being a cleric, he couldn't ask for god directly to give them safe passage to the netherworld, but he tried his best. He found one of the bodies of the assailant, and buried him as well. Knowing now that the enemy was of the bard nation, the knight retreated, heading back to warn of the tide of blood to come.

The Lord paladin was sitting at his desk, reading reports from various regions. The bard nation turning down invitation to help out the sicken was unfortunate, but in the overall scheme was not on very high priority. There were people who were injured during a long civil war in other countries, not to mention pestilence that started spreading through out the north region and the surrounding areas. This year was filled with many dark and evil things, and the influence of Helios's holy aura was fading from the lands. The darkness was coming and it was giving the Lord many headaches.

While reading reports, a messenger burst into the room.

"Sir! We got a report from a knight who returned from a missionary mission to Vermonia"

"Send him in" The lord replied, standing up.

"Sir! We were attacked!" The knight panted as he entered. He didn't have his armor, and was wearing tattered Vermonian peasant clothing.

"The Vermonians attacked the knights of the white tower?" The lord demanded to know, getting white faced. The prospect of the Vermonians starting a war was terrifying in such tremulous times.

"No sir, the bard nation had killed all my comrades and taken a cleric hostage. I found a bard body where the knights and clerics were slain." The Lord fell back into his chair. The Vermonians were many, but they were people who could be fought using conventional battle and the order of knights. But the Bard nation not only out numbered the White tower's order of paladins 7 to 1, they used sound as magical weapons to fight their enemies, and drive men crazy. Especially to be feared was their siren, who had even more advantages over men.

"They have not declared war, but have extended their hands to us first..." The lord muttered. "How many did our men manage to kill?"

"Only one sir." And the room fell into deep silence. There wasn't much else needed to be said.

"Go and get rested." The lord ordered.

"Yes sir." Said the young knight, who saluted and left.

"And so it begins." The paladin lord thought. He got out a pen and paper and started writing:

Emergency War edict: All warriors are to be deafened and learn how to fight and take orders without sound.

He stamped his seal upon the paper, and started writing on a different paper.

Order from the Lord Paladin of the white tower: All sister of sword to report to the citadel for war.

Illiria and the other Bards returned to Symphony with the news.
Illiria told the general what happened in a very detailed way, the general said " good work on getting the hostage although it was rather foolish of you to leave a corpse behind but I guess its a good intimidation technique, its time to get ready for war but im guessing they will prepare themselves to fight without having to hear anything, its time to start teaching the soldiers how to use the magic of music in other ways and not only to cause internal damage"

apparently there was a special group of Violin players who could shoot magic attacks from they playing of their Violins, and the general thought it could be useful if the other soldiers could learn how to do so as well but the chances of that to happen were not promising.

the king of Symphony asked for the healing bards to try come up with a way to use music as a magic shield but they told him that turning music into something physical in a way of protection is a very difficult thing to do and to get to that level of performance could take years of studying and training but they would try to do their best.

The muses were also ordered to prepare for a fight, apparently muses has a very powerful magic that could be very helpful in this fight. The main problem was that the soldiers of Symphony were very strong but not so good in terms of defence and such big flaw can determine the outcome of the war.

It wasn't long before all the knights and clerics were deafened by needles. 160 warriors gathered and were given training by the deaf community how to communicate and take order. The few knights not deafened were sent out to the rest of the continent to look for allies, for taking on the bard nation would not be an easy task.

However, the Lord Paladin knew, with all the problems of the land, the countries of the world were not likely to be able or willing to help. Still, holding on to hope that Helios was watching over all, The inhabitants grimly prepared for war. The simple but strong indigenous people were not told of the on coming war, but sensing danger, had already moved away. Better for the white tower; They would not be able to fight a war with full strength if there were danger of civilians getting hurt. Sentries and guards were doubled, and training intensified. The stock pile of goods started and the citadel, which were full of festivities, were transformed into a fortress of war.

A few hours later, the townsfolk of Vermonia was starting to wonder where the clerics went, seeing not everyone has fully recovered. The townsfolk were beginning to suspect "Maybe they were just trying to sneak behind our walls to see how good we are defended?" "They were observing our sick, trying to copy the disease and spread a world wide epedemic!".

Suspicious thoughts and distrust towards the white tower was starting to spread, as the Messenger from the white tower finally returned, to bring the grim news of the polluted water from the docks. The people were shocked and enraged when they heard the news, yet they knew that the docks people were good people and they have a peace treaty with them.

Knowing they couldn't use their main water source anymore the Vermonians turned to their Water wells as their last source of Water. But the Wells slowly dried out and the high council decided it was best to go to the white tower and ask the clerics if they could help purifying the water once again. Most of the townsfolk was displeased, swinging their axes and maces around in the air shouting about rather dying than asking heretics for help, yet in the end they had no other choice.

After it has been decided a priest and an escort of 12 axemen set out to the white tower to ask for their help.

When the group finally arrived, the walls were shut tightly and they already heard the knights training and swords clashing from afar... "Are they... Preparing for war?" The priest said. "They better not be messin' with us!" An axemen shouted, followed by a loud war cry by the rest. "Put down your arms!" The priest ordered, "We are here on a diplomatic mission, no violence!".

The group stopped in front of the Gate and knocked...

The priest and his guardsmen were surprised to see a mere woman greeting them at the gate, yet they didn't show that they felt insulted by it and greeted her properly.
