Why is the sky blue..*puts on geek glasses* Because if science backs it up theoretically, then it is! @.o | |

| ...sorry i have to do the scientific answer.
"The blue color of the sky is due to Rayleigh scattering. As light moves through the atmosphere, most of the longer wavelengths pass straight through. Little of the red, orange and yellow light is affected by the air.
However, much of the shorter wavelength light is absorbed by the gas molecules. The absorbed blue light is then radiated in different directions. It gets scattered all around the sky. Whichever direction you look, some of this scattered blue light reaches you. Since you see the blue light from everywhere overhead, the sky looks blue.
As you look closer to the horizon, the sky appears much paler in color. To reach you, the scattered blue light must pass through more air. Some of it gets scattered away again in other directions. Less blue light reaches your eyes. The color of the sky near the horizon appears paler or white. "

| but he didn't talk about why the sun looks red at sunset - Spoiler:
(caused by both lensing effect of the curvature of the atmosphere, and the additional amount of gas in the way, which deprives the light of the blue spectrum resulting in orangish red color)
and how you can get blue moon effect - Spoiler:
(dry atmosphere, with moon positioned directly overhead during full moon, most likely to happen in desert due to lack of moisture which absorbs blue spectrum)
nor the cause of rainbows - Spoiler:
(spoiler alert, caused by splitting of different spectrum of light due to differing "speed" in which light travels through water, which causes refraction, and the light escapes the water particle in every which way. however, when viewing this from a distance, you only see light that is headed your way, so the light appears to be uniformly in rainbow colored array when you only see specific spectrum of light from each vapor at a time)
